Position -- Production Team Member
[start date end of March 2023, year-round, looking to hire immediately]
This is a position of strength in multitudes of areas - communication with the coffee roasters, production manager, and fellow members on the production team - daily / weekly organization of order flow with special importance pointed towards the ability to execute and pack with accuracy on a deadline - willingness to shuttle coffee to Deer Isle cafe and post office - attention to detail and quality as well as passion for the cause
Duties include:
- Understanding the safety protocols and requirements when working nearby hot machines and within a food production space
- Calculating blend volumes and ratios and cross checking with head roaster
- Primary coffee bagger - weighing and bagging coffee with accuracy and proper protocol for packaging
- Packing daily orders including: wholesale, web, both cafes, individual customers and monthly coffee subscriptions
- Writing all bags for orders: web, wholesale, Stonington cafe and subscriptions
- Clear communication and coordination with Head Roaster / Production Manager and other production team members
- Organization and assembly of shipping boxes for outgoing daily packages
- Careful assembly of each box so coffee does not get damaged in transit
- Cross checking and organization of wholesale box content in reference to the order board
- Daily / weekly / monthly cleaning of production space at 56 Church
- Bringing new ideas and concepts to the table as well as constructive suggestions
- Participate in production cuppings
- Back up assistance for entire production team to expedite the flow and accomplishment of daily needs and deadlines
Physical demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pound boxes of coffee and product
- Ability to see, hear, taste, and speak within the workspace
- Ability to stand most of the day and also squat, turn, and bend with ease

Position -- Barista
[two start dates: end of March 2023 and May 2023, both year-round and seasonal, looking to hire immediately]
This is a position of strength in multitudes of areas - communication with your customers, fellow cafe team, and production team - preparation of delicious beverages with a pleasant customer service each and every time - assessment and communication / replenishment of cafe needs on a daily basis - attention to detail and quality as well as passion for the cause.
Duties include:
- Understanding the safety protocols and requirements when working nearby hot water and coffee equipment
- Organization and rotating knowledge of daily cafe offerings
- Execution of preparing delicious beverages as per 44 North standard and training
- Maintaining cafe stock and preparing beverages for the following day (ex: cold brew)
- Custom bagging of coffee for customers
- Communication of larger orders to roastery and providing a ‘ready by’ time to customer
- Thorough understanding of point of sales system / Square
- Accurate cash handling and record keeping
- Stock assessment and replenishment of retail coffee beans for our cafes / resale coffee brewing equipment / 44 north gear and products
- Answering the cafe phone line and directing calls to appropriate team members
- Keeping the workplace clean and organized
- Participation in the daily cleaning checklist and open-close protocols
- Communicate to Melissa and Megan if a customer has an issue, suggestion, or complaint
- Professionalism when dealing with customers, especially difficult ones
- Bringing new ideas and concepts to the table as well as constructive suggestions to better educate our team and our customers
Physical demands:
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of coffee onto mixing stool and lower back to floor
- Ability to see, hear, taste, and speak
- Ability to stand most of the day and also squat, turn, and bend with ease
